Prior to opening Steppin' Out at the age of 23, Amy Coleman had danced across the united states, including four tours with Danny Hoctor’s Dance Caravan. She has performed in New York, New Jersey, Las Vegas, Disney World, Disney Land, Chicago, Seattle, and elsewhere, and has studied and performed with leading choreographers in the industry such as three time Tony Award Winner Thommie Walsh, Scott Benson, Barry Youngblood, Joe Tremaine, Mia Michaels and Jackie Sleight. Amy was the official choreographer for the Miss South Carolina pageant for four years. She opened her doors in 1993 with 84 students, and Steppin' Out has flourished and grown to accommodate nearly 500 students. In 2021, Amy founded what is now Anderson Dance Alliance which produces Anderson's annual production of The Nutcracker. She also opened Flippin' Out Cheer & Tumble in the summer of 2022.
Dennis Adams and has been teaching ballroom dance lessons in and around Anderson for 20 years. Now don’t get all of the ideas of ballroom being dressy and fancy. Dennis teaches for social, casual dancing. No showcases or competitions! He’ll inspire you to get yourself up out of your recliners and get a little physical and mental exercise. There are opportunities to practice and use what you learn in Anderson and Greenville. And he’ll teach you skills you can use at parties, weddings and on most cruises. Dennis teaches waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, rumba, swing (similar to shag), tango, mambo/salsa and bolero.
Caroline Cox has grown up at the studio and has excelled tremendously in ballet and pointe. Her sweet disposition, disciplined work ethic and passion for children make her fantastic ballet teacher. Caroline has performed in Anderson Dance Alliance’s Nutcracker for the past two years in the roles of Snow corp, Ballerina doll and Waltz of the Flowers demi-soloist. Miss Cox is a Teacher Fellows Freshman at Anderson University majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in Dance. She also is employed by Chick-fil-A and has recently been promoted to trainer!
Shelby Holden has been involved with dance for most of her life, starting at the age of two. She has taken jazz, lyrical, contemporary and ballet, but considers tap her true love. She danced competitively for 14 years, winning numerous awards for jazz and lyrical. Currently, she teaches preschool dance, jazz and tap at Steppin’ Out Dance Studio. Shelby and her husband, Michael have a beautiful one year old girl named Landry. Shelby is a registered nurse with Interim Home Health. She is also currently working to obtain a Masters in Nursing. Shelby also is a partner with Anderson Dance Alliance.
Emma Hunt has worked her way up at the studio! She has experience in every genre! She joined our award winning competition team 5 years ago and has been a teacher’s assistant for the last 4 years. As soon as she started assisting she quickly became a favorite of parents and students alike and Steppin’ Out is thrilled to be able to offer Hip Hop classes with Emma this fall.
Jessica Kay began dancing at age two and continued her dance training all the way into college. She has a B.A. in dance with K-12 certification from Winthrop University where she trained in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap. She is excited to teach ballet at Steppin’ Out this year!
Jennifer Marcengill is a dancer of 27 years, originating from Texarkana, TX, and a Anderson local for the past 5 years. She danced as a competitive dancer throughout school and danced with the Clemson University Dance Company for 3 years while pursuing her Business Degree. In addition to her over 10 years of award-winning work as Competition Coordinator and Dance Team Director for other studios, she has also had the choreographed many school dance teams, drama programs, and professional dance crews. She loves training dancers in all genres, and thrives on spreading her excitement and passion with dancers of all ages.
Rayann Moseley has been dancing since the tender age of 4. She is well versed and trained in ballet, lyrical, jazz, hip hop and pointe. She has captured many honors such as Outstanding Hip Hop,Lyrical and Ballet awards and was also the recipient of Steppin' Out's yearly scholarship. Rayann is in charge of the Shooting Stars Competition Teams and serves as social media graphic designer for Steppin' Out, Flippin' Out and Anderson Dance Alliance
Amanda Reeves hails from Riverview, Michigan where she studied dance all throughout her childhood and well into her adulthood years. Under the direction of Diane Jolly and Shelly Jordan, Amanda inherited strong dance fundamentals and trained all the way to advanced levels. Now with more than 20 years experience in tap, jazz and ballet, she is prepared to bring fun and exciting classes to our studio!
Jennifer Thomas grew up dancing at Let’s Dance and was in the Jolie Coleur dance company in Greenville. She taught at multiple studios in SC and owned and operated The Dance Place in MS. She choreographs for plays, pageants, and competitions, teaches fitness classes at the YMCA and is a teacher in Anderson District 5. Jennifer is married and has three children.
Cheyenne Vernon started dancing at the age of three and has studied under top choreographers such as Lindley Mayer, Jackie Sleight, Chris Judd , Gil Duldalao. Mark Meismer, Laurie Ann Gibson, Wade Robson, Dave Scott, Desmond Richardson, Travis Wall, Ivan Koumaev, Tyce diorio, Mia Michaels , Ray Leeper , and Brian Freedman. Cheyenne graduated with a Business Management degree from Tri-County Technical College in 2013.
Hannah Williams is a well-rounded professional dancer. She specializes in teaching ballet and pointe, though she also enjoys teaching contemporary, jazz, and conditioning. Hannah began choreographing for performances at age 14 for her childhood studio, Tolbert-Yilmaz School of Dance. Professional dance experience includes The Georgia Ballet, Carolina Ballet Theatre, Vaughn Newman Dance, and Bluebird Uncaged. She has worked outside the theatre in modeling, project-based dance film, and she performed in the Super Bowl LIII halftime show.
